Homo Angelicus, a group exhibition of 16 artists (ranging in ages 5 to infinity) presents work referencing the ever present relationship between the cosmic and the terrestrial. The term Homo Angelicus refers to the theory of humans carrying traits of an angelic or celestial race, or angels incarnate in human bodies. The relationship between humans and celestial beings has been depicted in art for thousands of years. Though depicted largely in the work of Christian art, angelic depictions can be found earlier in the art of ancient Greece and Assyrian art.
The show is timed to coincide with one of the first showings of Timothy Wyllie’s work at the Outsider Art Fair presented by Ben Tischer, of New Discretions. Wyllie (1940-2017) was a founding member of the Process Church of the Final Judgment then lived in the Dakota for a bit before moving to the desert to spend the bulk of his later years exploring non-human intelligent communication (dolphins, aliens & angels). Wyllie wrote numerous books, many inspired by his guardian angel, Georgia, who was also his drag self. Along with Marcia Moore and John Lilly, Wyllie was a pioneer in the use of ketamine for self exploration. While Wyllie is known by many as the designer for The Process magazine, this is the first showing of his drawings which he largely kept to himself.
This grouping of artists reflects the community of Frank Haines. Artists who have had a relational impact on Haines and his continued relationship with the celestial guides. Haines will present a broadsheet detailing his relationship with the Celestials, as well as his relationship to the artists selected for this show.
